Hound vs. Sheepdog
We thought it may be entertaining to give you some insight into our four-legged children, Tucker and Reo. Reo is an eight-year-old Shetland Sheepdog. He is black and white, and very mild mannered while being slightly neurotic. Squirrels often taunt him at the back door, and if you give him the chance, he will run as fast as lightening to chase them up a tree and bark continuously until he tires. He also despises the mail man and garbage man. Reo loves to lay right up next to you and is very affectionate. He eats his food one bite at a time and is easily pushed around (AKA Tucker steals his food when dad isn’t watching).
Tucker is a one-and-a-half-year-old plott hound from North Carolina. He has an amazing ability to curl up in a tiny ball when sleeping, and then stretching out to over six-feet-tall from head to toe. Tucker is full of personality, and often talks to you with his hound whine. He is stubborn as a mule, but he somehow still aims to please you. He has long, chicken legs with a big ‘ol nose and long ears, and he is black and tan brindle. Tucker was found abandoned in the mountains at only 32 pounds. I adopted him in January 2006, and he now has a shiny coat and weighs 50-pounds (he still has five more pounds to gain). He also has the ability to smack into still objects at high rates of speed without being shaken
He gave me a concussion this fall by diving off the stairs onto my head (don’t ask!) and sometimes runs too fast to stop and slams into 6-by-6 support beams… haha. You getting the picture? He is H-Y-P-E-R and challenging, but we love him.
Together, you can imagine how these two are night and day, yet the best of friends. They love wrestling with sticks in the back yard, playing chase or tag (very funny to watch!) and pretending to be tough guard dogs. You will rarely see one without the other close behind, unless Reo needs his space and go hides for awhile for some peace and quiet. Allow me to introduce you to our children…
