Finishing the Basement Begins

November 27th, 2007 by Jenny

One of our major projects for this house was to finish the basement. We had a full bath, TV room and office downstairs that needed to be finished. There was no trim, the windows were not finished with trim and the bathroom only consisted of a tub/shower combo (faucet not included) with a concrete floor. So, we had our work cut out for us. One of our friends and neighbors is a contractor, and he agreed to help us with this project. We finished the office several months ago, when we had to start setting up the nursery. Sean and I combined offices to make room for the baby. Now, the last of the renovation to our house remains. We are finishing out the trim, completing the bathroom, painting and getting new carpet. Whether we carpet only the basement or the entire house remains unknown right now, but we’ll see how things progress. And the good news: It will all be complete by Christmas!!! YAY! Any other renovations we do will be purely cosmetic, but it’s nice to know that our house is almost complete.

We have started trying to “baby proof” and be responsible parents. Today, we bought carbon monoxide/smoke detectors for the house and furniture straps to tie down the furniture in the nursery. There seems to be so many things to do! Oh! And we bought deadbolts for all outside doors. It was an expensive day at Home Depot, but I know we’re going to love the finished product!

That’s all the news for now folks! Stay tuned!
