34 Week Update
Today was our 34 week check-up, and everything is looking great. I only gained three pounds over the past two weeks, and my blood pressure was nice and low. The baby had a strong heart rate and has been moving all over the place. I’ve been feeling a little queasy and dizzy lately and experiencing some shortness of breath. The doctor thinks I may need to be on an iron supplement to help with the queasiness and dizziness, so we’re starting that today. As for the shortness of breath, my heart sounded healthy and strong, so we think that is due to the baby getting bigger and pushing everything up as he is running out of room.
Sean and I like to sit on the couch these days and watch my belly do “the wave” as Baby Jack moves around. We rub my belly where you see him poking out, so that he can feel our touch. And we talk to him a lot more now that we see him moving around. It’s a neat experience, and it makes Sean super eager to meet his little boy!
What’s going on with “mom-to-be” lately? I’ve gotten a lot slower over the past week. You’ll most likely find me walking at a slow stroll or doing the dreaded waddle - haha. I get tired easy. Sean has started dropping me off near the door at church now, instead of me walking all the way across the huge parking lot. Don’t get me wrong - walking is good for me - but I don’t want to walk into Sunday School out of breath and sweaty. Getting in and out of the car is quite a chore with this big belly. I more or less roll in and out of the car now. Cooking and washing dishes is even getting to be hard to do. My belly sticks so far out that my arms barely can reach over the stove or the sink. I need “go go gadget arms” these days! I am hot all the time. Normally, I’m always cold, so I KNOW this is attributed to pregnancy. I went into the doctor’s office in short-sleeves today, and it was 48 degrees outside. Yes, I was burning up! And no, I’m not sick! My hips ache a lot. The more I feel the baby in my pelvis, the more achy I become. I guess my body is starting to spread out and get ready for Baby Jack’s appearance in the next six weeks.
So far, we have had two baby showers, and we have gotten a lot of stuff for the baby! My last shower will be on Friday, so we are really excited about that. It also gives us a month to buy any remaining items we need for the baby, so we will be all set-up and ready for the big day. Sean has been bugging me to get my hospital bag packed, so I am working on that. I have about half of it laying on the guest bed. I should finish that sometime this week, I hope. Our childbirth class and L&D tour is next weekend at the hospital. That is our last class and should prepare us for and probably freak us out about giving birth. I’m really dreading watching those videos! Sean may find me on the floor by the end of that class - haha! Is it too late to change my mind?! Just kidding! I know God will take care of us and everything will be ok. Regardless how much pain I may be in. It’ll all be worth it in the end!
We’ll have weekly appointments starting at 36 weeks. Those may give us a better idea of if this little guy comes early, right on time or a little late. Who knows?! We’ll keep you posted on our progress as we near the end of this journey. In the meantime, please keep us in your prayers and let us know if we can pray for you. Take care!
