38 Week Checkup

March 24th, 2008 by Jenny

Today was a MUCH better experience at the OB office, thank goodness! They got me in and out of there in fifteen minutes! LOVE IT! Anyways, I gained four pounds in one week, which was mostly water weight. My legs, feet and lips are pretty swollen, and it all seemed to happen this weekend. My blood pressure is good though, so no worries there. As for Baby Jack, his heartbeat was strong, as usual. The OB was very impressed with him. He even pushed his little butt out for her to rub - haha! I had a Braxton Hicks contraction just as she was measuring my belly, and she said, “Yep, girl, you are close to the end!” I was dilated 2-3 cm and still remained 50% effaced, so she said it could definitely be any time now and that I probably wouldn’t see 40 weeks already being this far dilated. So, I left pretty excited.

I’m extremely uncomfortable now. I had a pretty strong set of contractions on Saturday evening that lasted for about 6 hours. They were 4-5 minutes apart and about 1 minute in duration, but they never got strong enough that I couldn’t walk or talk through them, so we just kept on going about our Saturday night plans. They finally died off at about midnight, so I could get a few hours of sleep. Least to say, I was thankful I got to sleep in on Sunday morning! Since then, I’ve had a lot of Braxton Hicks contractions. I am pretty crampy most of the day and have a lot of lower back pain. But that’s all good - it’s progress my body is making to prepare for the birth of Baby Jack. It leaves me a little tired and cranky, but we are hanging in there.
