Two Weeks Old
Time seems like one long day right now. I can’t believe two weeks have passed! Sean and I are starting to adjust to getting little sleep. We finally transitioned from the living room back to our bedroom. We had to plan out a new nighttime routine, since he is going back to work tomorrow. He needs a lot more sleep than he was getting to make it through a long work day. I’m a little nervous about being home by myself, but I know it will be good for me and Jack to develop our own little routine during the day.
Jack is doing great. He went back to the doctor today for a follow-up visit to check his jaundice and also get some eye drops for his clogged tear duct. The doctor said it was a common problem in infants and was nothing to worry about. Jack has already hit the 8 pound mark! This little man is growing so fast! Last Wednesday, he only weighed 7.14 pounds, and now he is a little over 8! I told you he could eat - haha! He is starting to make a lot of noises this week. I guess he is experimenting with his voice. It really makes us laugh sometimes. He still has his days and nights mixed up. He sleeps really well during the day, but at night we are averaging two hours of sleep at a time, while he usually takes a 3-4 hour afternoon nap. We are hoping he will stretch his long afternoon nap to nighttime soon, but the books say that can take up to one month to work out.
We brought the dogs home this week. Reo wanted nothing to do with the baby, but Tucker was very curious. Jack was making baby noises, and Tucker would tilt his head to the side wondering what in the world we had brought home. He likes to come up and sniff Jack a lot, and he whines quite a bit right now. He is use to being my baby, and now he is learning that the baby comes first. Actually, Sean takes care of the dogs right now. I have my hands too full with Jack, so they are missing a lot of attention. I think they will adjust in time.
To sum it all up, Sean and I are really loving parenthood. The past two weeks have been so awesome! We have been able to relax at home with Jack, while learning how to take care of him (with each other’s much needed support) and bonding as a new family. I’m so thankful that Sean was able to take two weeks off of work to help out. He is such a wonderful dad, and he is always looking out for me, too.
Milestone of the week: “Mom” and Jack had their first outing without dad today when we went to the doctor’s office. Sean had to be at home since the dogs were getting groomed, so it was my first day without Sean’s help. My arm and back muscles will certainly get strong toting around the baby carrier! But we did fine, and Sean sent me a text message saying how much he missed us during the appointment. I think he was surprised at how much he missed Jack, even though we were only gone for a few hours. When we got home, he met us at the back door and said he didn’t know how he was going to be able to go back to work.
Funny moment of the week: Jack has gotten very good at peeing on us lately! We are quickly learning to grab the nearest burp cloth to cover him up during diaper changes. Most of the time the poor guy has peed all over himself, but Sean, me, the ottoman and the carpet have gotten tagged a few times this week. Today, he almost got the nurse in the doctor’s office. If you’re real tired in the middle of the night, that will surely wake you up - haha!
