Tucker Finds A New Home
This week, I received an email from an old friend of mine who had gotten the email from me that we were looking for Tucker a new home. Her mom, who I grew up knowing at our old church, was looking for a new dog and was interested in meeting Tucker. Finding him a new home was a very difficult decision for me. He has been my baby for the past two years, but when Jack was born everything changed. I couldn’t give him the exercise and attention he needed. He was shredding his toys right and left, which I knew was him getting his anxiety and frustration out. I knew it was time to find him a good family who had the time and energy it took to take care of him so he would be happy.
So, last night, Debi and Matt came by our house to meet Tucker for the first time. Tucker was a ball of energy. He showed off all of his “tricks” (obedience commands), and he seemed to really love both of them a lot. We arranged for him to spend the weekend with them to see how he would get along with their other dog and cat. I packed up all of his things, and Sean helped them get everything into the car. By this time, Jack was 30 minutes past his naptime. He was fussing, and I had to take him upstairs, missing the chance to tell Tucker good-bye for the last time.
It was a sad night around our house. I knew he was in good hands, and I knew he would be so much happier in the long run, but it was hard to see him drive away. Sean and I are planning to go visit him when he gets settled into his new home. Debi called me this morning to tell me he got along with everyone and that they wanted to keep him permanently. (She had to put one of her dogs down last week, and she said Tucker was everything she hoped he would be and was filling that void for them.) I’m so happy to know that Tucker has found a good home. He is such a great dog, and he deserved a family that would have lots of time for him. He spent his first night at their house watching the Braves game on the couch with Debi, and he spent the morning snoozing in the bed with Matt. I know he is in Heaven!!!
We love you, Tucker!
