2 Month Check-up

June 18th, 2008 by Jenny

Today was Jack’s 2 month check-up. He was 13.7 pounds and 25.5 inches tall. He is above average in both. We were surprised to find out his head circumference was even more above average - haha - guess we’re going to have a smart kid!

Sean and I had made the decision before going that we were going to follow Dr. Sears’ alternative vaccination schedule for his vaccines. Today, he received only two of them, instead of the recommended five by the American Academy of Pediatrics. The pediatrician was very kind to listen to our views on why we were choosing an alternative vaccination schedule, but he was firm in that since there was no evidence proving our points, that he would advise using the regular schedule. We listened to his viewpoint, but still felt most comfortable with splitting up these vaccines. He accommodated our request, but also gave us a handful of information to take with us on the studies that have been done and credible websites he recommended we visit. I was relieved in the end. I read Dr. Sears’ “The Vaccine Book” from front to back, and I really feel that this is the right decision. Jack will be fully vaccinated, he just won’t receive five shots at one time, and he will only receive one vaccine containing aluminum at one time. This has become quite a controversial topic among parents and doctors these days, and it’s a very personal decision. However, I’m thankful he allowed us to do what we thought was best for our child.

We were very proud of Jack today. He missed his nap due to his doctor’s appointment, but he made it through without any meltdowns. He also was very brave for his first shot. One was given orally, which he liked a lot, and the other he barely even cried at all. So, we were very relieved, and mom didn’t shed any tears. Now that he is sleeping soundly in his crib, I think I’ll take a snooze myself…
