What A Crazy Week!

June 22nd, 2008 by Jenny

This has really been a crazy week in the Williams household. We’ll start with “Big Daddy,” AKA Sean. On Wednesday, Sean’s leg started hurting him really bad. He noticed he was experiencing a lot of the same symptoms that he had with his previous blood clot. So, he called the doctor right away. It was too late for them to send a referral for him, so they asked him to head up to the hospital in Canton to get checked out. They told him it was a superficial clot and just to take some Aspirin. Well, Sean went back to his doctor to follow-up from his ER visit, and the doctor said the ER had misdiagnosed him and that it was indeed a more serious clot. He made an appointment for Sean to go see a vascular surgeon this morning, who determined there was a blood clot in one of Sean’s main arteries. So, they admitted him to the hospital in Marietta for observation. While he was there, they gave him a shot in his stomach to thin his blood and he had a CT scan. Jack and I missed him so much! Jack was fussy all day and didn’t sleep at all that night, so I think he knew his daddy wasn’t at home. By Saturday afternoon, he was discharged and able to come home. He will have to give himself a shot every day this week to keep his blood thin and start taking a blood thinner in pill form. All of this requires a lot of bloodwork and follow-up doctor’s visits, so please keep Sean in your prayers as we try to dissolve his clot and hopefully prevent this from happening again. We are thankful we caught it in time!

As for our little guy, he has had an interesting week too. On Wednesday, Jack had his first round of immunizations. As I mentioned before, we chose an alternative vaccination schedule, which did not make us feel very comfortable with our pediatrician. He proceeded to give me a guilt trip on how I was causing my child to get stuck too many times and that I was getting caught up in media propaganda. Then, he proceeded to tell me how all these children have ended up at Egleston with liver damage because their parents gave them Tylenol before six months of age. (One of my friends who is a pediatrician thought this was absolutely ludicrous!) Throughout the visit, he tried to intimidate me so that I would do what he wanted me to do, and I left with almost none of my questions answered because after he spent 30 minutes talking about vaccines, he had no more time to spend with us. Least to say, I prayed about it and felt God leading us to choose another pediatrician for our son. We are choosing a smaller practice with only one doctor that hopefully will be more approachable when we have questions or certain preferences. She came very highly recommended, and Sean and I are excited to meet her next month. A pediatrician should be someone that we can get to know, form a positive relationship with, be able to have these discussions without intimidation or fear tactics. I value our pediatrician’s advice and would like to be able to have an educated discussion, instead of feeling inferior or put down because of certain concerns. This is our first child - we have a lot of questions - that’s what they’re there for. Sorry about my rant…

Moving on, Jack has been a little fussy since then, but he is starting to get back to his old self. He is having trouble sleeping lately. The pediatrician told us his gums were swollen and that he had started teething, so many babies at this age have trouble sleeping. It was funny though because once Sean came home from the hospital, he slept five hours, ate, and then slept for another three hours! He missed his daddy!

As for me, I thought I was doing so well this year with my allergies and sinuses, but yesterday I started sneezing a lot and getting the usual runny nose with a scratchy throat. UGH! Whatever just started blooming is what I’m allergic to! Hopefully, I’ll feel better soon. It just leaves me tired and drained, which is not what I need with a two month old! HA!

We thank you all for your prayers and concern during our whole ordeal this week. Your love and support mean so much to us! We hope you all are doing well.
