Jack’s 4 Month Appt.
Today, we took Jack for his 4 month wellness check-up. He was 27.25 inches long and weighed 15.6 pounds. He is getting to be a very big boy! His infant car seat only goes up to 30 inches in length for safety requirements, so it looks like we will be getting a convertible car seat soon. Along with a highchair! Jack has started nursing every 45 minutes to 2 hours, which is A LOT! So, the pediatrician thinks it may be time for us to start rice cereal soon. Of course, the American Academy of Pediatrics says wait until 6 months, but she said he was a big boy and may need to start a little sooner if he is nursing that often. We also spoke with her about transitioning him to formula. She recommended the Nestle Good Start Soy formula for him, so we will be starting that this week. Our goal is to have him weaned by 6 months.
Then came the infamous conversation on his bad sleeping habits lately. I knew it was coming… let him cry it out. UGH! He is FOUR months old! Are you kidding me?! Well, I got brave and gave it a try for his afternoon nap, and we both ended up in hysterics and tears. When I went to check on him, he was screaming so hard that his body was shaking, his face was purple, and he had made himself throw up he was crying so hard. His little raspy voice was all I could handle! I scooped him up, held him close and nursed him to sleep. We took a nap on the couch for two hours - we were both exhausted. And I vowed I would NEVER EVER do that to him again. That is just cruel and unnecessary. Maybe it will take him longer to sleep on his own through the night - so what! I can’t let my child scream like that. So, I guess for now we’ll deal with it and hope it gets better soon. I’m reading the No Cry Sleep Solution right now, and I’m hoping we can follow that plan instead of the cry it out solution, which I hate to even call a solution. It’s ridiculous!
Well, Sean is having no such luck getting Jack to sleep tonight, so I better head back upstairs and help out…
