Who Knew?! Rice cereal, reflux and Mmmmmmmmms
It seems rice cereal and bananas are the common culprits to constipation in our little ones just starting solids. And go figure, that because of tradition, those are the foods we start our babies with. Jack went from pooping at almost every feeding to only one poop a day. I was really concerned about this until I read The Baby Book by Dr. Sears. He mentions trying prunes, pears or peaches to help relieve constipation. So, I’m reducing the rice cereal and trying one of those fruits to see if we can get him back on track again.
Now for the not-so-fun report. It seems that Jack may be suffering from reflux. According to Dr. Sears, reflux peaks at four months of age in infants. They should outgrow it by one year of age. Today, Jack has had a rough day. He hasn’t been able to keep much down today. And he had a very runny poopy diaper this evening. I called the pediatrician, and the nurse is suspecting that he may be suffering from reflux. He has a lot more of the symptoms, like not sleeping well, wet burps, arching his back, and being fussy while eating yet eating frequently. So, we’re going to go tomorrow to take a look and see if that is what has been causing all of this. I hope we find answers finally.
Randomly, Jack has begun saying Mmmmmms and Bbbbbbbbbbbs today. I was in the shower, and all the sudden I heard him start talking and what sounded like Mama. I kept repeating it to him, but never quite heard it. But it was so cute to see him pucker his lips together and give us a few new sounds today. I have it on video from one of his talking episodes today, so we will upload it soon.
