Help, I Threw Out my Back

December 2nd, 2008 by Jenny

Yes, indeed. Mommy is down for the count! I went to lift Jack today, and something pulled. I immediately straightened up and felt the shooting pain down my lower back. Yes, I have felt that pain once before. I was working for Cohutta Water. I was getting ready for some promotional event, when I lifted a case of bottled water wrong. I ended up flat on my back on my couch and could barely walk. After two weeks of chiropractic treatment and lots of Advil, I had somewhat gotten back to normal. So, here I am. A mommy of an 8-month old, 22-pound turkey! HA! That adds a little kink to throwing out my back. I can’t lay on the couch! I still have to lift him, care for him, change diapers, stop him from crawling into the bathroom, etc. Luckily, Sean’s big project at work got pushed back two weeks, so he is able to come home early today. He has Jack duty while I ice my back. Our chiropractor can’t see me until 10:30 a.m. tomorrow, which is fine. He felt bad that he had to leave early today - something with his kids - and told me to ice it tonight to relieve some of the pain. Sean is planning to work from home tomorrow to help me out with Jack and give my back a chance to try and heal a little before I have to get back to lifting him all day. Poor guy! He didn’t understand mommy was hurt today, and I was trying to lift him as little as possible. He kept crawling over and pulling on my pants leg for me to pick him up. And he decided he didn’t want to take ANY naps today, so I had to just put him in his crib and let him cry a little. I can’t tolerate the pulling and squirming while I rock with the back pain. He finally sacked out a few minutes ago - after an hour of trying to get him to go to sleep. It hurts just sitting here. I’m praying it heals quickly! Mommies aren’t allowed to be hurt or get sick - we’re on call 24/7 regardless what happens. I know this isn’t totally true, but you get my point. Thanks to my loving husband for helping me out, and we’re praying that God will heal my back very quickly.

Mommy Lesson of the Day: You’re not invincible, as much as your child thinks you are! Bend your knees when lifting!
