Update: New Puppy & Pregnancy

Emma, our new Boxer puppy, is adjusting to our family life very well. She is the sweetest little thing! I took her for her first vet check-up last week. She weighed 9 pounds, was 8 weeks old, and she does have a heart murmur that was detected. Apparently, this is common for Boxer puppies, who normally outgrow this by their third month. The vet is a proud owner of a Boxer himself, so he knows a lot about that specific breed, which gave me some piece of mind. The next day, Emma woke up sick. She cried all night long, when she normally sleeps all night. She had terrible stomach issues that were very concerning to me, and she wasn’t eating. Due to the mess in the kitchen and me trying to keep Jack away from it, Sean came home from work to take her to the vet, while I cleaned up the kitchen and fed Jack breakfast. It turns out that she had a lot of bacteria in her stool, but no parasites or worms, so an antibiotic was prescribed along with a special puppy food to help get her through this issue she was having. After two doses, her appetite was back, and she didn’t display anymore stomach problems. Sean was able to return to work fairly quickly, and we got back to life as normal.

Pregnancy is going pretty well. My pants won’t button anymore, which I didn’t expect to happen at 6 weeks, but it’s true that you start showing MUCH sooner with the second baby. I’m sick pretty much all the time. That can be a challenge with a new puppy and an almost 2-year-old, but we make it through our day just fine. I try to keep eating small snacks throughout the day to help keep something on my stomach, but today, nothing is helping. My stomach has been in my throat all day. I know that’s a blessing though since it means a healthy baby. I just hate being so sick. We are looking forward to seeing our first ultrasound in a few weeks! I just need to confirm it’s ONE baby and hear the heartbeat. LOL! That will help me relax a little bit.

Jack is doing well. We talked to his pediatrician this month about his lack of speech, and she has referred us to a speech therapist for an evaluation. I’m anxious to see how that goes. We will also be converting his crib to a toddler bed at the end of the month. I wanted to get through my birthday first, but we will be starting that transition very soon. Once he has gotten use to that, we plan to move the furniture out of the guest bedroom and start transforming that into Jack’s new room. We will paint it and buy toddler furniture for him to use for a few years. It’s a slightly larger room with more floor space for him, so I think he will enjoy making that his own room and moving more of his books and toys into it for him. I want him to be comfortable in his room as his own space where he not only sleeps but also has some quiet playtime. This will be necessary when the new baby comes, so I want to start implementing some of those things now. We’re excited to create a big boy room for him!!! I hope he likes it. As for the nursery, I think we will repaint it but keep the same nursery decor. Maybe if I just change the wall color, that will be new and fresh enough for me to live with.

That’s all for now! Stay tuned!
