We took Jack to the pediatrician this afternoon after a suspicious rash appeared on the backs of his arms last night. His little face has been beet red for two months now, and we chalked it up to a teething rash. Our pediatrician asked us when we switched him from breastmilk to formula, and I told her it was two months ago. I had never made the correlation that the formula may be causing his excema breakouts. She mentioned he could have a milk allergy and recommended in addition to a prescription cream that we switch to Similac Alimentum. Anyone have any idea how much this stuff costs?!?!?!?! For a 16 oz. can, we’re talking $26-28 each! One can MAY last three days. For the ready-to-feed bottles, we’re looking at $9-10 each. Those last about a day per large container. Yikes! And we thought Similac Organic was expensive! If Jack will tolerate the formula switch, I will be researching if our insurance will cover this for us, since it is pediatrician recommended. Does anyone know the cheapest place I can buy this stuff? We will do whatever it takes to eliminate Jack’s allergies and excema, regardless of the cost. It has been studied and suggested it can be quite painful, so we want to get this under control as soon as possible. It makes me wish I had kept breastfeeding now and worked through the biting issues longer, but we can’t turn back now. Let me know if you use Alimentum and where it’s the cheapest! I’d love to hear from you!

Today, I was able to visit Riverstone Chiropractic at the referral of one of Sean’s co-worker buddies. I have to brag for a second. He is a strong Christian, praise & worship is playing all throughout the office, “Smile, God Loves You” is on his ceiling tile when you lay on your back on the adjustment table, and he praises the Lord with everything he did. I was so impressed! If anyone in the Woodstock/Canton/Jasper area needs a good chiropractor, you MUST go see him!

As for my back, he popped me something like six times. One of my legs was a 1/2 inch higher than the other due to a hip misalignment. Then, I had some lower back misalignments too. To top it off, my neck was a complete mess. He asked me if I got headaches often and just put up with them. I told him I attributed them to stress, but it was my neck in misalignment. So, I’m very sore, but the sharp pain and hurting is gone! It was immediate! So, I’ll be taking Advil and using my ice pack to deal with the soreness and let my back heal. I’m free to lift Jack tomorrow, so that will be nice. Sean was so wonderful in helping me out during all of this. He came home early yesterday and took off work today to manage Jack for me while I got my treatment. Thank you, honey! He takes such good care of me!!!

Then I whispered, “It’s usually a good alternative.” All the sudden, Jack started to crack up. At first, I thought it was the whispering, so I tried saying a few other phrases while whispering, but he wouldn’t laugh. But every time Sean or I said, “It’s usually a good alternative,” Jack would crack up laughing. HA! What a funny kid we have!

Yes, indeed. Mommy is down for the count! I went to lift Jack today, and something pulled. I immediately straightened up and felt the shooting pain down my lower back. Yes, I have felt that pain once before. I was working for Cohutta Water. I was getting ready for some promotional event, when I lifted a case of bottled water wrong. I ended up flat on my back on my couch and could barely walk. After two weeks of chiropractic treatment and lots of Advil, I had somewhat gotten back to normal. So, here I am. A mommy of an 8-month old, 22-pound turkey! HA! That adds a little kink to throwing out my back. I can’t lay on the couch! I still have to lift him, care for him, change diapers, stop him from crawling into the bathroom, etc. Luckily, Sean’s big project at work got pushed back two weeks, so he is able to come home early today. He has Jack duty while I ice my back. Our chiropractor can’t see me until 10:30 a.m. tomorrow, which is fine. He felt bad that he had to leave early today - something with his kids - and told me to ice it tonight to relieve some of the pain. Sean is planning to work from home tomorrow to help me out with Jack and give my back a chance to try and heal a little before I have to get back to lifting him all day. Poor guy! He didn’t understand mommy was hurt today, and I was trying to lift him as little as possible. He kept crawling over and pulling on my pants leg for me to pick him up. And he decided he didn’t want to take ANY naps today, so I had to just put him in his crib and let him cry a little. I can’t tolerate the pulling and squirming while I rock with the back pain. He finally sacked out a few minutes ago - after an hour of trying to get him to go to sleep. It hurts just sitting here. I’m praying it heals quickly! Mommies aren’t allowed to be hurt or get sick - we’re on call 24/7 regardless what happens. I know this isn’t totally true, but you get my point. Thanks to my loving husband for helping me out, and we’re praying that God will heal my back very quickly.

Mommy Lesson of the Day: You’re not invincible, as much as your child thinks you are! Bend your knees when lifting!

Today is Jack’s 8 month old birthday! I say this every month, but I honestly cannot believe he is 8 months old! Where is time going?! Jack has mastered the army crawl now, but he is not yet up on his hands and knees. When he wants me to pick him up, he will take off across the room towards me and pull on my pants. Sometimes he will just sit in the floor and cry at me with his arms up. It’s so neat to see him try and tell me what he wants now. He loves to stand and hold onto the couch or the ottomans in the TV room. He can’t pull himself up yet, but he really thinks he is a big boy when he gets to stand and show off his skills.

His newest thing is to mimic sounds. He loves to laugh when other people are laughing, and his little fake laugh is hilarious. He will smack his lips and try to click his tongue when he sees you doing it. It’s very cute! He likes to snack on his Gerber Puffs. His pincher grasp is really starting to develop, and he is getting them into his mouth easily now. He has tried eating other finger foods but tends to choke on them easily, so we have just been sticking to the Puffs for right now. He is still enjoying his stage 2 baby foods. Last month, we introduced meats, and he only likes chicken and turkey. He eats four jars of baby food a day. Lately, he has been extra hungry, so I think he may be going through another growth spurt. Lastly in the food department, we have introduced the sippy cup to Jack. He drinks his apple juice only out of the sippy now. Sometimes he will hold it on his own, but he mostly needs me to hold it for him to drink out of it right now. We’re working on that!

Jack doesn’t have his next check-up until January, but he was 21.5 pounds a few weeks ago. He is wearing size 12 month or 12-18 month clothes and an infant size 4 shoe. He is very tall for his age; most people think he is over a year old. He is still in a size 4 diaper, and we hope he stays in that size for a little while - ha. He has eight teeth now - four on top and four on bottom - and is working on his ninth tooth now. Here are a few pictures of Jack at 8 months old:

Today, we took Jack to get his very first Christmas tree at Cagle’s Dairy. Here is Jack before we got out of the car. He is wearing his cute onesie that Grandma bought him, and it was very appropriate as it had a truck hauling a Christmas tree. Very cute!

Next, I introduced Jack to a Christmas tree and let him touch one (a real one) for the very first time.

Once we got our tree, the guys asked us if we wanted them to trim off the bottom branches. Not even thinking, they bought out the chainsaw, and Jack was terrified. He screamed so shrill and loud that it broke our heart! We saw this look of complete terror in his face, and I immediately took off for the car to get him away from the loud noise. He was so upset! For the next 15 minutes, Jack was just kind of in a daze. I kept touching his leg, telling him it was okay, and trying to get him to laugh and forget about it. But he would just stare at me like, “What did you do to me?!” Here is the specific look I got:

We felt horrible! We didn’t want his first Christmas tree experience to be a bad experience, and I’m hoping he forgot about it. Sean is afraid he is going to have Chainsaw Monster nightmares. Thankfully, Mommy got him to snap out of it just before we got home from our trip. Here is Jack and Daddy with the Christmas tree on the top of the car when we got home.

We’ll get more pictures once the tree is decorated. Right now, we are letting the branches settle, so we can hang the lights! This is so exciting! We’ve never been this excited about Christmas!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our friends and family!!!!!!!!! This is our first Thanksgiving with Jack, and we are SO very thankful that he is in our lives. We are thankful he is sleeping better (on most nights), that he is a happy and healthy baby, and that I am able to stay at home with him. We can’t imagine our lives without him or what it was like before he was here. God has richly blessed us this year! We give Him all the glory and honor and praise this Thanksgiving (and all year long)!

Last weekend, we had an early Thanksgiving with my mom and dad in North Carolina. Today, we will drive up to Gainesville to spend Thanksgiving with Sean’s mom (”Ama”). She is going to have a house full, so I’m sure it will be a lot of fun and that everyone will love seeing Jack. Ama hasn’t been able to spend a lot of time with Jack. She has been really busy this year. So, it’s always a special treat for Jack to spend some quality time with his Ama.

My mom and dad were not able to get away this Thanksgiving. They are feeling a little bit lonely up in NC by themselves and not getting to share it with family this year. So, we want you to know we love you, are thinking of you today, and hope you find something fun to do together!

I really enjoy taking vacations. It’s nice to get out of the house and get some fresh air with a nice change of scenery. However, coming home is always a pain in the rear! Jack is an angel while we are away. He always acts his best and loves to show off when new faces are around. Then, we get home and he flips the switch. He is whiny, cranky, doesn’t sleep well and has about a three-day adjustment period until he gets back to his normal self again. It’s always to be expected, but it’s always dreaded! So, here we are. It’s day number two since we have been back from NC. And the second day of constant fussing, whining and not sleeping. Somehow I’m also suppose to unpack, clean up and do laundry to catch back up now that we’re home, which is almost impossible with Jack acting this way. I know it’ll be over soon, but it’s exhausting. Anyone else experience this after vacation with your babies?

He stayed up late last night playing games, so he enjoyed sleeping in a little bit. The bummer is that he has had to really buckle down on his diet after Thanksgiving with my parents, so no cake or ice cream for him today. However, I got an ice cream and ate it for him on my way home from getting groceries this afternoon, so does that count???? Haha!

This past week, Sean and I drove up to NC to visit my parents. We easily were able to pack everything into the Explorer, which was so nice! I even did all the diaper changes in the seat! Much cleaner than those yucky fast food bathrooms. And Jack did beautifully! He barely cried at all, and he seemed to be able to eat and sleep on the go just fine. He even took his bottles at room temperature in his seat, so that we only had to stop when it was time for his solids. That was a life saver!

We got there on Thursday night, and Jack slept great in the Pack ‘n Play. He didn’t do well at all the last time we visited, so Sean and I were relieved that he was comfortable in it. On Friday, we went shopping and ate out for Sean’s birthday lunch. Our lunch was very yummy!!!!!!! And of course, Jack got new clothes from both us and the grandparents. It was super cold though! The wind would just cut right through you. Since he had an ear infection, I bundled him up as much as possible while we were walking to and from the mall. He didn’t seem to mind.

John and Megan drove up on Friday night and stayed in a hotel. Mom and dad have a cute two-bedroom house with one bathroom, but you can imagine how tight that gets with all of us there. Mom had everything decorated for Christmas. Jack had his very own “kiddie” tree in the living room with a train around the bottom. He really liked that train! The funniest Christmas decorations were everyone’s stockings lined up at the fireplace, and then Jack’s stocking on the end, which was three times larger than everyone’s stocking! Hahaha. Can you say spoiled much?!

For Thanksgiving dinner, dad fried a turkey while mom prepared all the scrumptious side dishes. Jack enjoyed his sweet potato Gerber puffs while we all chowed down on dinner. He tried the mashed potatoes but didn’t care much for them at all! He was gagging and choking on it, and it wasn’t even hardly a taste. Crazy kid! Least to say, he stuck to his baby snacks for the rest of the dinner.

We wrapped up our visit on Sunday at dad’s church. Dad and I sang a duet for the first time in a LONG time, and everyone seemed to really enjoy it. We sang “Remember Me” by Mark Shultz. It went perfectly with dad’s sermon, too. Dad challenged us to really be thankful during Thanksgiving and to just take the time to be still, get on our knees and truly thank God for what He has done for us. It was a really special time, especially with my son sitting right beside me. I couldn’t help but have tears running down my face as I bowed my head before my Lord and Savior and just said THANK YOU for such an amazing blessing! I’m thankful for many other things too, but especially for my son on his first Thanksgiving!

We hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your families this holiday. Take the time to get on your knees this week and thank God for what He has done for you. Stay tuned for my “Thankful List” on Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!
